What to Do if it Rains On Your Wedding Day

No one wants rain on their wedding day. But if there’s one thing we can’t control, it’s the weather. No matter when or where you’re getting married, there’s always a chance of rain. The best advice I can give you is to be prepared. Follow my tips below and you’ll have the day of your dreams, come rain or shine.

Have a backup plan

No matter how much planning you do, rain can really throw a spanner in the works. It’s always worth having a backup plan for any outdoor formalities just in case the weather does turn sour.

When booking your vendors, speak to them about wet weather requirements and ensure that they have options for rainy days. Consider where you might move your guests to if it does rain, and ensure that no one’s left out in the cold! Even if you don’t end up using this backup plan, it’s well worth having one in place. If nothing else it’ll give you peace of mind – one less thing to worry about!

Check the forecast

We’re sure we won’t have to remind you to do this, as most couples will have one eye on the weather forecast throughout the days and weeks leading up to their special day! The forecast is generally not incredibly reliable a few weeks before the wedding, but if you get to one or two days before and rain is being predicted, then you’ll know it’s time to instate your rainy day backup plan. Often, even if rain is on the agenda, it won’t rain for the whole day, so you may be able to adjust timings and still make the most of any sunnier periods on the day.

Embrace the rain

If it’s going to rain, it’s going to rain. It doesn’t matter how disappointed you may be, or how much of your planning has just gone out of the window. So, we really recommend that if rain is predicted for your wedding day, you let go of the sadness and embrace it! You don’t want to let a silly thing like rain get in the way of one of the most magical days of your life, do you? Remember, guests moods’ feed off of those of the newlyweds themselves, so if you’re loving the rain and partying the night away regardless, they will be too.

Keep guests cosy

Nothing saps the party mood quite like soggy, chilly guests, so make sure your wet weather plans keep everyone warm and cosy at all times. If guests do have to be outside during some parts of the day, provide wet weather gear such as umbrellas, and blankets to keep them snug. You can even design these items around your overall wedding theme to ensure the whole day still looks Pinterest-worthy, even if the weather’s not great!

Strike a pose

A rain shower on your wedding day isn’t all bad. In fact, it offers some amazing photo opportunities. Let’s not forget, many of the most romantic moments from blockbuster movies feature couples in the rain! So, if you’re willing to really embrace that rain and make the most of the incredible backdrop it provides, talk to your photographer about an outdoor wedding photo shoot. Photos like these are well worth getting wet for; you’ll be amazed at the end results.

If your wedding day is looming ever closer and you’re not 100% confident that the sun’s going to shine, don’t panic. Despite what Alanis Morisette would have us believe, rain on your wedding day isn’t the end of the world. It just leaves you with a few more decisions to make! Embrace the rain, it’s still going to be one of the best days of your life!
